Hyun Bin, Hyde, Jekyll, Me and My MCO Birthday

It has been almost 3 years since my last post here... Life has a way of distracting you and uninspiring you to write... But I thought I'd write again today... Since it's my last birthday of my 30s... For the past 4 years I've made it a point to be on leave during my birthday... I wanted to be in a new place for every year of my birthday... Unfortunately thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic which brought about a Movement Control Order in my country, I'm celebrating my birthday this year at home... Still, I'm grateful that I'm still around to have a birthday...

So thanks to the MCO, I've had plenty of time to indulge in K-dramas...And my latest Oppa crush is Hyun Bin... It's all Netflix's fault...Actually I first saw Hyun Bin in Memories of the Alhambra...I watched that drama because of Park Shin Hye (because she was such a kick-ass neurosurgeon in Doctors) and I loved Alhambra... It didn't send me into a Hyun Bin frenzy like how Angel's Eyes sent me into a Lee SangYoon frenzy... But then I had to go and watch Crash Landing On You recently (no thanks to peer pressure from ppl around me)...

I'm telling you, that Captain Ri totally destroyed every girl/ woman's dream guy image... I mean, how can a man be even more perfect than your dream guy? And I just couldn't help crying for Hyun Bin with his lost and forlorn puppy-eyed look... It should be a crime for men to have such eyes... Anyway, I thought I was going to go cold turkey on Hyun Bin... But a friend recommended a more gradual step-down therapy... By watching Hyde, Jekyll, Me... Yeah, much good that did...

I've always been intrigued by shows about Dissociative Identity Disorder... So I watched Hyde, Jekyll, Me... and dang it! I got even more hooked... I loved Goo Seo Jin... and I cried so much for him... I know, I know... But he's the Hyde (bad guy) and Robin is the Jekyll (good guy)... Unfortunately, I'm medically trained... And as far as Robin is concerned, he is a sign and symptom of an illness... Robin was created by Seo Jin to protect his psyche... Of course the girl had to fall for Robin... Coz it's so easy to fall for the good guy who protected her and made her laugh...

But I loved how Seo Jin was slowly transformed to be a better man by love... And he is actually a good person... because even his dissociative personality is a good person... And when Robin's personality fused into Seo Jin, I was so happy coz this is probably the dream outcome of a psychiatrist for his/ her DID patients... I loved this drama so much more than CLOY... Even though a friend told me this was Hyun Bin's lowest rated drama... As if I care about drama ratings...

So I actually watched Hyde, Jekyll, Me for the 2nd time over the Raya break... Yes, I've never watched any drama more than once... I loved this one that much... Although I already knew Yoon Tae Joo was Lee Soo Hyeon even from episode 1... But I just couldn't get enough of Seo Jin... and even though Ha Na insisted that she wasn't in love with Seo Jin, we (Seo Jin and I) both knew she was lying to herself... Coz the words which 'Robin' spoke which she couldn't forget were actually spoken by Seo Jin... And it was Seo Jin who was smiling at Ha Na at the radio station... the smile of a man who loved her...

Anyway, I've been on a Hyun Bin frenzy...After Hyde, I watched Secret Garden... I hated Kim Joo Won all the way till episode 17 when he decided to exchange soul with Gil Ra Im to let her live... Only then could I feel how much he loved the girl... I also watched My Name Is Kim Sam Soon... totally made me hate all those chaebols... And their mothers... Then it was Worlds Within... also didn't like the character Hyun Bin played... Are all Korean men like that? Or are only Korean men in the entertainment industry like that? I even watched Ireland...where Hyun Bin played the 2nd male lead... I had mixed feelings about this character... He was a great guy... devoted husband and all... until his wife fell for a useless bum... But I guess I can understand why he became like that... I would have became like that too if my husband fell for another woman who's worse than I am...

I started another Hyun Bin drama... Friend, Our Legend... apparently he gave a stellar performance in this drama... But I found out that he died in the drama in episode 2... Now I don't really feel like watching episode 3 and beyond... I've also watched a few of Hyun Bin movies... Late Autumn, The Negotiation, Confidential Assignment and A Millionaire's First Love... Seems like my Hyun Bin frenzy is worse than my Sang Yoon frenzy...

Oh well, this phase too, shall pass... I guess I'm writing this to get it out of my system... I'm typing this while drinking lemongrass mojito and watching Hyun Bin drama OSTs... I actually missed a delivery from BF earlier coz I was charging my phone in the room... Awaiting eagerly for the re-delivery... Happy Birthday to me! May I live a life God has meant for me to live...

Locked-in syndrome...again...and birthdays...

This week was a mixture of good and bad...more good though...which i'm very thankful for...i wasn't on call during the weekdays...so i had time to go to church to practice keyboard after work...Suet Lai asked me to play the keyboard for her during this Friday's worship...since i suck big time at playing, i needed more practice...also, this week Alisa (with Anthony and Darrien) and Chiew Ping came to USM for their stats course...so it was good to have more friends around...

So one of the days when i went to church to practice keyboard, i got locked in again when i was trying to come out of the church...church was on the first floor...so after i was done locking up and went down the stairs...there was a door and a grill downstairs....and i couldn't open the door despite unlocking it...it was bloody stuck...Alisa was outside and i asked her to open the grill to help me unlock the door from the outside...but she said the grill was locked...i was quite alarmed as i remembered i didn't lock the grill..

As i was panicking in the dark (coz i turned off the light at the stairway), suddenly the lights went on...and i heard doors being closed and locked...then suddenly a man's voice asked, "tak boleh buka pintu?" i was quite shocked that there was another person in the unit...i found out later that apparently there's someone staying up at the 2nd floor...so i said, "tak boleh" in my most despaired tone...and he said, "cuba pusing ke atas"...so i turned the handle upwards and voila!! the door opened...thank God for that man...coz if it wasn't for him i would have been locked in for quite sometime...again...but really, how would i know that i had to turn the handle upward to open a door? that's just not normal...

On Thursday, i had to be delivery girl for my boss and seniors in OT coz they just couldn't bear to eat the OT food anymore...i had to drop my ward work to go buy food for them...really, back in KK, my bosses would wait for us MOs to go for lunch together...and if anyone went to ta pau, it was when the person is free and didn't have ward work pending...sigh, i guess i've really been spoilt in KK...i guess this is the price to pay for having sold my soul to the devil...i actually had a very naughty thought while buying them food...i wanted to put a lot of chilli and sambal in their soup...but my conscience won in the end...

Thursday was also Khalil's birthday...and i have yet to listen to his new album 15...although the package from HK is sitting at home in KL waiting for me to open it...So Friday i played keyboard at church...i played as if all the week's practice didn't mean anything...coz it was still bad playing...so i had to turn down the keyboard's volume so as not to injure any musical ears...came home and slept for 3 hours...then a bunch of us went for dinner at 4 Seasons...and then after that went for dessert at Red Bean Cafe...gosh...weekend has become feasting days for me...since i hardly get proper meals during the weekdays...

So now it's early Saturday morning...and i'm on call later...and i'm wide awake coz i slept earlier in the afternoon...dang!!! it's also Joe's birthday today...sent him a birthday wish msg which he replied with a virtual kiss, hahaha..felt bad that i'm not in KL to celebrate his birthday with him...since he actually came back from Penang to celebrate my birthday with me...i should have asked for this weekend off and gone back to KL...but it's my fault really...i actually didn't remember that it's Joe's birthday today :P...such a horrible friend i am....oh well, good friends will understand that even though we're not near each other, our thoughts and prayers are always with them....Happy Birthday Khalil and Joe!!!

Chapter 30: A New Beginning....

Yesterday i've finally hit the big 3-0...and no, i didn't wake up this morning at almost noon with extra visible crow feet, more prominent nasolabial folds or frown lines on my forehead...even though i had a late night...oh, note to self, i need to change that description on my profile...since i'm no longer 20-something...hahaha...

I had lunch with Ah Liam, my ex-lab partner in uni who is now working in his sister's aesthetic clinic in 10 boulevard...for the first time in my 30 years of life, i drove myself to Damansara area...i might have kind of lost my way but i managed to arrive within half hour and i didn't have to make u-turns...although i was feeling horribly lost while i was driving...so we went for lunch at One Utama...Ah Liam treated me to this non-halal Japanese restaurant where i had spicy pork ramen...i wanted to eat more pork before i go off to Kelantan...hehe..after lunch we went back to his clinic...it was being renovated so he didn't have any patients...it's a very nice and classy looking clinic...with all the up-to-date aesthetic equipment...

I saw this eyelash booster pamphlet on the counter and immediately i was intrigued...and i actually bought one since Ah Liam said it worked for a lot of his customers...hahaha, so easy to make a woman's money...well, i forgot to use it when i got home early this morning...so i'll start using it tonight and hopefully by end of june i'll see longer eyelashes on myself...hehe...after a visit to his clinic, i thought i'd go to Tropicana City Mall for some shopping before i go home...but dang! i missed the u-turn to the mall so i thought, forget it...not going to go through the toll again...so i just drove straight home...

I started watching this drama series called
爱无限 or directly translated as Love, Unlimited/Infinity... becoz i heard this song by Wilber Pan called 我们都怕痛 aka 'We're afraid of pain' on the radio some time back and i thought the 2 verses of the chorus totally sang how i felt...so i youtubed the song and found out about the series...although i don't fancy Wilber Pan, i thought i'd put down my bias opinion and give the series a watch anyway...so when i got home, i was watching it till almost dinner time..Shee Cheong called me from China just to wish me happy birthday and we chatted for a while..how thoughtful of him to remember my birthday...then Ma, Pei, Simon, Aunty and i went for dinner at Dragon-I in Leisure Mall...had a small cake with 3 big candles...initially i said i wanted 30 small ones...but that would not have fit the cake...hehe...

After sending Aunty home, we came home...waited for Joe's msg...it came about 10pm plus saying that he just reached KL from Penang...we were watching Pirates of the Carribeans at 1140pm...he said he'll come pick me up at 11pm...which of course he was late anyway...really, i spend half my life waiting for other ppl, is there anyone out there who's waiting for me? anyway, Joe finally came at 1135pm...he said his house was being renovated so when he got home he had to clear up some mess before he could come out again...and he initially planned to buy me a cake as a surprise but by that time, all the cake shops were closed...

But considering he just came back from Penang, and he did buy the movie tickets in advance, and considering he's the only other friend who still bothered to celebrate my birthday with me, i really shouldn't be upset for his tardiness...though we missed the first 10 mins of the show...at least it was entertaining enough...Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow and his wits and tricks never fails to make me laugh...got home about almost 3am...which explained why i woke up close to noon today...

So i'm finally starting my master in plastic surgery next month...going back to USM, my alma mater...back to studying, while still having to work...i don't know if i'd be able to survive and complete my master in 4 years time...praying hard God will give me the strength and courage...but really, i often wondered if i'd continue on this road if i had gotten married earlier to my previous ex... i just feel that if i did have a family, i'd probably be contented just to be a chronic MO in some health clinic so that i can have more time with my family...but since i'm still single...so this is the path that i am taking...maybe this is the path that i am supposed to take...and God knew that if i had a family by now i would not have taken this path...and so things happened the way it did...although as far as i can see, this path will only lead me to a life of solitude...but we humans are short-sighted...only God knows what lies ahead for us...perhaps a life with family is still a possibility that awaits me...

So the year i turn 30 is the year of a new beginning for me...definitely something to look forward to...although a part of me is kind of dreading it...well, new (old) place...new friends...and meeting back old friends...new chapter in life...change isn't always a bad thing...

Happy Birthday Pa....

Today is Pa's birthday...it would have been his 63rd birthday....while i was still at home, we would always go out for dinner for Pa's birthday every year...and i would love going shopping to select his birthday present...but i've been away from home the past few years...and i can't remember the last time i went home for Pa's birthday...i would only call him to wish him "Happy Birthday"...but now, i wouldn't be able to celebrate his birthdays with him anymore...

Pa, i know you're watching over us...and you can hear us...but i just wish i could call you now to tell you about some good things that has happened over the last 2 days...i attended a basic surgical skills course conducted by the people from the Royal College of Surgeons (Eng) which was held in my hospital...and i was on call yesterday...it was really amazing...after 5pm till this morning 645am, there wasn't a single call from the casualty or district for referrals...definitely my best ever call...i guess i should thank Eric for his prayers....

I really had a lot of fun at the course...and today, when the course ended, they awarded me as the best lady of the course...and my present was a teddy bear in a surgeon's outfit...i still wonder how i managed to get that award...coz my bowel anastomosis leaked...and my vein patch was crumply...i hope i've made you proud, Pa...at least now i know i am meant to do surgeries after all...i know you'll be watching me doing my 1st cheiloplasty and palatoplasty...and you will share my joy in creating magic....i missed you, Pa...hope you're happy, wherever you are...

Happy Birthday to me!!!

So today's my 29th birthday...by next year this day i'll have to change my profile description...coz i'll no longer be a 20-something...hehe...anyway this year's birthday is really the best ever...coz i'm watching Khalil in concert in Genting tomorrow....and someone bought me a first row seat ticket.... hahahaha....i'm delirious....

Plus, i'm getting a new laptop for my birthday....:)...tonight the whole family will be going for dinner... and my mom, younger sister and niece made me a frozen cheesecake...:)...i love cheesecake...

I opened my facebook this afternoon and there were dozens of birthday wishes on my wall...so touched...Colleen actually called me to wish my happy birthday this morning...and a few of my friends also sent me smses...it's good to be remembered on your birthday....

Anyway, happy birthday to me!!!

Bad call and Birthday dinner..

I was on call yesterday...had a very very busy call...was running around from morning till night...and this morning...i was already tired since yesterday afternoon and yet i still had to run around settling all my cases...yesterday we had a total of 5 admissions into ICU...and we had to transfer 4 patients out of ICU to accomodate the new admissions...so ICU was like a factory..in and out..in and out.. 3 of the admissions came in after office hours...and by ICU standard, that's a record..

I won't even start telling about the cases that were admitted coz it'll take too long...suffice to say i was kept up whole night till almost 3am...thank God sharon was OT call..and she wasn't busy...well, she was actually waiting expectantly for the ICU admissions coz they were potential cases for op.. but the surgeon decided that the patients should be just kept in ICU until there are signs of hypovolaemia i.e. patients are bleeding before they'd decide to go in for op...sigh...so i had to resuscitate the patient and keep them alive....

Would have love to just go home and crawl into my bed and be comatosed for the whole day but i had locum from 8am-1pm...didn't want to do but Pang kept pestering me so i had to do...but good thing i managed to sleep a bit during locum...the morning wasn't too busy...after locum, came home and slept till 5pm...still felt tired..

Went out for dinner with Jasmine, Kean Khang and Suet Lai...i think Jasmine wanted to make up to me for not going for dinner on wednesday night..so she wanted to celebrate my birthday today...she bought me a mango cake which was really yummy and we had seafood for dinner...had clams, prawns and scallops...scrumptious!!! best thing was...met one of my colleague and her husband at the restaurant...and they paid the bill for us..hehe..free dinner..that was nice..;P

Anyway, tomorrow i'm on call again...these EOD calls are really taking a toll on me...-_-"

Happy Birthday to Me....

Today's my 28th birthday (yea, it's alright..i don't mind revealing my age ;P)...it's probably just any other day to most people, but i grew up in a home where birthdays were celebrated regardless of how old (or young) you are...so birthday is always a special day to me..anyway, after my horrendous day yesterday, my cousin Sam suggested that we should go for a total body massage..to celebrate my birthday..so we did...one whole hour of pampering...ahhh...good to knead out all the tense muscle since i've been all tensed out earlier..

After that we went to this Japanese restaurant c
alled Fukurou at Damai for dinner...Sharon and Pang joined us...asked Jasmine to come along but as usual, whenever i ask her to go for dinner i'll always get rejected...doesn't happen if Elaine or Alisa (or even Siang Lin, or Flora) asked her to go for dinner.. oh well...so dinner wasn't too bad..and we had discount coz i actually have the privilege card for that restaurant...after dinner, i sent Sam back to my place and i went for my overnight locum.. haha, i'm such a horrible cousin...my cousin came to stay with me and i left him alone at home with Jasmine...

I watched CSI and CSI:Miami while i was at the locum
clinic..hehe..good thing there were no patients from 10pm till 12am..so got to watch uninterrupted CSI..:)..somewhere before 12am, i received a call from Andrew...coz he wanted to be the 1st person to wish me happy birthday.. that was nice..got a few msges too...anyway, tried to sleep after that..but as usual, couldn't sleep on strange beds..

I was working today...had quite a busy day...coz
as usual, ICU was full and we were trying very hard to transfer out patients to make bed for more patients..sigh...it's a never-ending story...and big boss insisted on having a mortality and morbidity meeting today...i was actually dozing off while my big boss droned on and on...thanks God my boss saved my ass by asking to go resuscitate a patient in ICU whose BP was darn low despite on 2 inotropes...phew!!!

Managed to get off work a bit after 5pm...so i went to a salon at Damai which i've intended to try out to get a new hairstyle..but it was closed already..hmm...so i drove to City Mall instead..msged Sharon to join me...so after walking about a while
, i ended up in Rebecca Salon...since they closed at 6.30pm, can't get much done...i actually was thinking of getting a proper curl since my last one was pretty much a disaster...but not enough time...so had to settle with just cutting off my coloured edges...so here's my new look...;)

Sharon and i had dinner at Halo Cafe...really didn't know where else to eat de..we usually go there to listen to live Chinese singing...but we were early so there was only a guy practising on the keyboard..his voice wasn't too bad...the high kind of voice..but he really needed more practice on the keyboard..anyway, he practised a song that i liked a lot..it's by 曾國輝 ...the song's called xia yi bian tian kong...i actually felt like telling the guy that it was my birthday and that maybe he could actually sing me a few Khalil's songs...but hehe, too shy to do that..

So yea, i'm one year older..and hopefully wiser..i'm just glad i'm not on call again on my birthday..
