Back for Cam's ROM...and Elaine the paediatrician...

So this is my 2nd time back in KL this month...this was quite an impromptu trip back home actually...got a msg from Cam about 2 weeks back telling me her ROM would be on 26/3....best news i've heard so far this year...so happy for her...she's getting married!! so among us '3 sekawan' i.e. Jess, Cam and i, i'd be the only single girl in the group after 26/3...guess we've had always knew that i would be last among us to be married, if at all, hehe...

Just landed in KL this evening...Pei came to pick me up from KL Sentral and we went to Mid Valley for dinner...had japanese food at Sushi Tei...coz Sushi Zanmai had a ridiculously long queue...then we went to MPH to look for 'Fifty Shades of Grey'...didn't find it there...then we went to Borders and they didn't have it there as well...crap...

So went back...while in the car, suddenly received a msg from Elaine...saying she passed her exam...2 good news in a month (March isn't going to be a bad month after all)...so now she has officially joined the world of paediatricians...so proud of her!! and i told Pei, my friend's a paediatrician now...and i'm still a loser...sigh...oh well, at least i can share my friend's joy and success and be happy for them...

My 30th Christmas...in Singapore...Blessed Adventure...

I decided to go down to Singapore for my 30th Christmas...i didn't want to stay in KB coz i feared it would be too depressing...i didn't feel like going back to KL coz well, i just didn't feel like it...so i thought i'd take the train down to Singapore for the Christmas weekend...remind me never again to take the seat coach on a night train...not exactly the most pleasant experience...

My journey to Singapore is quite one of faith...i didn't have a single Singapore cent with me when i came out from the Woodlands checkpoint on Friday morning...but God found me a money-changer opposite the bus stop...and i changed rm100 into sgd40.70...planned to use my debit card when shopping...found my way to Suntec City just in time to meet up with my aunt for lunch...left my luggage with my aunt for her to bring back to her place coz i was meeting up with Yin Yee after her work...we were going to her church's Christmas celebration...

It was quite an adventure trying to find my way to Yin Yee's workplace at Marina Bay Financial Centre...but i loved the idea of walking along underground malls...met some new friends at her church...one was an Iranian guy...and i found out that Iranians celebrate Winter Solstice by eating all night long...how cool is that huh? church was at NUS...so i found my way back to aunt's place at Toa Payoh North...thanks to my new friends...

Christmas eve lunch with aunt at Kallang...pork rib prawn mee...interesting mix...then i met up with Sherine and Yin Yee at Suntec City...Sherine, MeiLing and i were going for City Harvest's Christmas service at 2pm...Yin Yee went painting with Kathy and John...the Christmas service was pretty amazing...it was at one of the convention halls...and the musical they put up was almost professional...it did feel a little commercialized...

Met up with Kian Ming and his girlfriend at Bishan interchange for dinner...i really love the idea of underground malls at MRT stations...at least you can go shopping if your friends were running late...it was good to have caught up with Kian Ming...initially thought of checking out Orchard...but after considering the crowd that might be, we decided against it...so yea, my Christmas eve didn't turn out the way i imagined it would be...didn't bump into any good-looking guy under the mistletoe...i got back to aunt's place about 11pm...spent some time reading the Bible...replied Christmas messages...then went to bed...

So Christmas morning i was supposed to meet Yin Yee at Katong Shopping Centre at 945am coz we were going to the Cornerstone church Christmas service...so i took the MRT from Braddell station to Dhoby Ghaut and caught the no. 10 bus to Katong...arrived at about 10am...then i saw Yin Yee's message...saying: hey, where are you? i'm at city hall mrt.......i was like, hmmm, what's going on? tried calling her, couldn't get through...good thing the messages could go through...so i took the no. 14 bus from the opposite side of the road back to city hall...reached there about 1030am...

Apparently, of all the messages that Yin Yee and i exchanged the night before, the most important one that informed about the change of venue did not get through to me...hence the Christmas morning adventure...but it's amazing how God came through all this...and what's more amazing was that during the altar call, when the pastor asked if anyone has never invited Jesus into his/her heart and experienced the joy of Christmas, my new Iranian friend raised his hand...and he went to the front and said the sinner's prayer...i'm not sure if he really knew what he was doing...but for me, it was a miracle i needed to see...

After lunch, Yin Yee and i went to Tanglin Mall...i was at That CD Shop in City Hall and they didn't have Corrinne May's older albums but the girl in the shop checked that Tanglin Mall had them...along the way, saw this guy sitting by the roadside in front of a stretch of Tudorean shophouses...he was drawing the buildings...very very nice...anyway, they only had Corrinne May's 'Beautiful Seed' in Tanglin Mall...apparently even that branch ran out of her 'Save in a Crazy World' album...so sad...but still glad that i got her 'Beautiful Seed'...

We went to meet up with Jessie and Sherine at Katong112...then went to one of their church member's place at the east...nice apartment...i think i like the east side of Singapore...feels more homely and less crowded...we shared and prayed and i felt really glad...Yin Yee has grown so much in her walk with the Lord since i first met her in Camp Cameron...we had late dinner somewhere along Katong...first time trying 'mee pok'...quite nice...then Yin Yee accompanied me back to Dhoby Ghaut MRT...by then my EZlink card was low on cash and i only have sgd2 left in my wallet...thank God for Yin Yee who helped me to top up the card...really grateful...

Was supposed to take the 9am bus from Golden Mile Plaza back to KL on Boxing Day...aunt and i only left her place at 810am...and she didn't say anything about we were going to be late...and we were taking the MRT...but by 855am, it became apparent we weren't going to make it in time for the bus coz we were still 5 stations behind...aunt tried to get the bus ppl to wait for us but the guy said they'll wait at most 10 minutes..so we hopped off at Paya Lebar station and caught a cab...but we still couldn't make it in time...so we asked the cabbie to send us to Tuas checkpoint to catch the bus...thank God we made it there before the bus...aunt said if she had a heart condition she might have had a heart attack...so much drama...i told her, with me, life's always exciting and adventurous...hahahaha...really felt bad to drag aunt into my adventures...the cab cost sgd 20 over...almost the price of my bus ticket...

So yea, that was my 30th Christmas...no, i didn't crowd with the people in Orchard on Christmas eve...i didn't even make it to Marina Bay Sands...but it was a Christmas filled with blessings and miracles i needed to help me remember how much God loves me...coz i'll definitely need to remember these come the New Year...

My camp buddy was involved in an accident...

If i could paint November, it would have been a mixture of happy colours stained with huge black spots...i found out about the death of 2 friends within a week apart...i didn't think i could bear hearing about another friend's death...but December has started with another bad news...today i found out that my camp buddy Fadz was involved in a car accident on Sunday...he was driving alone when his car collided with another car which carried a family of 5...Fadz escaped the Grim Reaper's grip but not so the driver of the other car...

I don't know what exactly happened...and i actually messaged Fadz on Monday to asked him out for lunch oblivious to the fact that he was probably in a lot of pain in the hospital...and i was a bit crossed that he didn't reply me...horrible me...but i really thank the Lord that Fadz is still alive...i know, i'm a self-centred person...i want my friends around me...that's why i don't think i can bear it if Fadz didn't make it out of the accident alive...

I feel sad that the driver of the other car is no longer around...may he/she rest in peace...and may God bring comfort and healing to his/her family...and i'm sure Fadz is very traumatized by the whole thing...the regret of causing the death of another human...although the accident may not have been his fault...but i'm really grateful that God protected Fadz....may He grant him peace and healing as he rests at his home...may God speeds his recovery....and hopefully Fadz doesn't get into too much trouble with the legal issues...

。。是否有点狼狈吗? well, this is life, i guess...

34...

Today was a busy day...whole day in OT...last case only finished at 630pm and boss asked to do the postponed LA case under emergency...so after finishing the case and settling the post op patients, i finally got to go home by 10pm plus...it was raining the whole day...and i only managed to have my dinner at 1030pm...while having my dinner, i suddenly received a message from Billy...it read: Our beloved friend TKP passed away this morning. MI....The grim reaper sure pulled a 'stunner'...i still can't believe it...KP just celebrated his 34th birthday 2 days ago...the last time i saw him was before he graduated from uni...but i always remembered him as one of the nicest senior i've ever known...

KP was a super nice guy...and he was as skinny as a pole...and he played tennis...how could he have died of an MI? It just sounds so ridiculous...why do good people die young? he has a very young son...KP, i hope you had a good birthday...may God bless your soul and may you rest in peace...may God bring comfort and healing to your family as they grieve for you...

KP's death reminded me of Jesus...He died on the cross at the age of 33...just a year younger...i mourn for KP's passing and cried out at how unfair that his life should be taken from him at such a young age...but i've taken for granted Jesus' death on the cross...i've always accepted that Jesus had to die on the cross to atone for my sins yet i've taken the precious life He has given me for granted...as if i deserved it...Lord, help me to never take Your sacrifice for granted...may i live this life as You will it...so that when it's my turn to pass from this earth, i will see You face to face, Lord...

The Return to CF...and a dysmenorrhoea-induced vasovagal attack...

I went to the USM’s CF yesterday…after a long long long time…since I left USM and started working in Sabah, I’ve never visited KB again till I came back here for Masters…and I’ve been wanting to check out the CF for the last 5 months plus...of course the first 4 months were quite impossible coz I was in HUSM…then I started my rotation in HKB and I’ve been meaning to go but somehow everytime Wednesdays 730pm come I’ll forget that I was supposed to go to CF…so yesterday I reminded myself the whole day that I had a date with God that evening…

And horrible me actually didn’t feel like going when the time has almost arrived…but I went anyway…and I’m glad I did…the CF is held at the Murni hall now…and we just sat on the floor on mats…we had praise and worship session like old times…and most of the songs we used to sing back then…and being in the Murni hall…brought back so much nostalgia…I was so moved during the worship session that tears were free-flowing…after all these years, I’m back where it all started…the place where I really found God…and how our hide-and-seek relationship really started…one where I kept hiding and He kept seeking and have always found me and brought me back to Him…

It’s been 5 years since I graduated…and I’ve stray away from Him uncountable times…just like Israel…and yet He has always brought me back to Him…and I’m just so amazed at how far He has brought me through…just like the line from the song “Through It All” that goes: “You’ll never let me go, through it all”…then we had a speaker from FES who gave us guides for bible study…sitting on the floor for almost an hour gave me such a butt ache and back ache that I realized I’m no longer as young as I used to be…

So I woke up this morning feeling a lot better…I’ve been down with a flu since Monday…went to work ready for my 4 consecutive calls in a row…we had clinic in the morning…my boss admitted 2 patients…one for I & D, another for T & S…was planning to do them after lunch…and thank God the flap case was postponed…coz then it would have been a longer day for me…anyway, just about half an hour before clinic ended, I had a bad attack of menstrual cramps…today was my 4th day of menses…it has been happening on and off lately but the pain usually is self-resolving after about 10-15 minutes…

But after clinic, the pain was still there and seemed to be worsening…I thought I’d take a quick drive to get lunch and come back to the hospital to continue my work…walking to the car park was a challenge…but I managed…then halfway driving to Chinatown, I felt a vasovagal attack coming…I guess the severe dysmenorrhoea must have induced the vasovagal attack…and I have had history of vasovagal attacks during recovery from flu…short of total blackout, I had all the symptoms of turning cold and clammy, lips as pale as sheet, nauseous, hands trembling with tingling sensation, upper and lower limbs turning into jelly…I was praying that I would make it to some roadside where I could park before I totally blackout and crash into something….

Thank God I managed to find somewhere to park by the roadside…I thought resting a while until the wave has passed would help…but the pain and all the symptoms only got worse…the pain was so bad that I felt like defecating…so I had to go to a budget hotel which was just opposite the road where I parked to use the toilet…I was in the toilet for a good while…of course with defecation the pain was still there…so in the end I had to ask for help from the hotel people to send me back to the hospital…I didn’t think I could drive back there on my own without risking an accident which would only made matters worse…

So the nice couple drove me to the hospital…dropped me at the casualty, went to park my car and returned my car keys…I wanted to offer them cab money since they drove my car but the guy said he’ll get his friends to pick them up…really thank God for kind strangers…so I went into the triage, telling the staff there that I was a doctor who works in the hospital and I’m sick…they didn’t even bother to take my blood pressure at the triage…they sent me to the yellow zone and left me there to die…ok, so I’m being dramatic…I’m sure no one ever dies of pain-induced vasovagal attack…but from previous history, whenever I had vasovagal attacks, my blood pressure drops to as low as 60/30mmHg…and I need IV drips to go in fast to bring my BP back to normal…

Of course since they left me lying there for so long, by the time I called a student nurse to check my BP, it was 100/62 mmHg…I supposed my body has compensated…but the pain was still unbearable…I think I can imagine 1/10th of a contraction pain now…and I’m definitely going for epidural childbirth…my menstrual cramps lasted probably an hour plus and I really thought I would die…while in pain, I called Kean Khang to see if he was in the hospital…coz I didn’t know how long more till the casualty MO would come to help me…and I needed pain relief real bad…thank God he was PM shift and he was free…

By the time he came to casualty, the casualty MO had just attended to me…so I told her I need drips and pain killers…and I’ll be fine…so Kean Khang tried to set an IV line on my right hand but failed…thank God the nursing coordinator managed to set a line on my left hand…coz all my veins were constricted and collapsed…usually, my veins are very prominent…then Kean Khang smuggled a dose of dynastat from OT for me…after that, my pain was gone and so were the other symptoms…of course the 2 pints drip helped too…in the end, I had to ask my colleague to take my call today…I really felt drained after the ordeal…I think I need to rest today so I can continue to be on call the next 3 days…very kind of my colleague to agree to help…

I felt really alone in my pain earlier…I cried out to the Lord to take the pain away but the pain only became worse…at that time I really wished I had someone beside me to hold my hand and tell me that everything was going to be alright…but I don’t have that someone…and I couldn’t hear God telling me that…but I was very grateful for Kean Khang…his presence made me felt less alone…and I felt that I still have friends who will come to my rescue when I need help…God bless him…and the kind couple who helped send me to the hospital…

Of Snickers, Skubalon, and Fun in the Sun....

Last week was the beginning of flaps again...i was on call on Tuesday...and Wednesday was flap OT...and i left the hospital at about 230am on Thursday morning...after about 44 hours plus spent in the hospital...which is quite the usual...but i thank God that Thursday has come and that i was going on a girls weekend trip to across the border to Golok with Sharon and Suet Lai...but when i went out for dinner with them on Thursday evening, they told me that they decided not to venture across the border just yet in view of us not being familiar to the place...so we ended up deciding to go to Perhentian Kecil instead...was a bit disappointed coz i really was looking forward to a good thai massage after a long week...but a weekend island getaway sounded just as good...

We had dinner at Four Seasons...afterwards, we dropped by at 7-11 coz Sharon wanted to stock up on her painkillers...and i saw a bunch of Snickers bars on the counter and just had to get one...it has been ages since i munched on a Snickers bar...so i went home and packed...and enjoyed my Snickers bar at about 11pm...such unholy hour to be eating such energy-laddened food...which was why it was so gratifying...the small luxuries in life...hehehe....

Woke up late for church on Friday morning...good thing made it to church before they finished worship session...we were starting a series on Galatians and Dr Chew talked about Paul's background...and we all learned a new word in sermon...a Greek word: skubalon...which according to Dr Chew, sounds like abalone but is a far cry from it...coz skubalon actually means dung/ shit...so now i have a new word to use...and it won't even sound like a swear word...hahahaha....

After church i went home to collect my bag and the taxi with Sharon and Suet Lai in it, came to pick me up...as usual, i was sleeping all the way to Kuala Besut...hey, i only slept about 14 hours for the last 3 days...i have my extra baggy eyebags in my photos as prove...we had lunch at a restaurant opposite the jetty and took the 230pm speedboat to Perhentian Kecil...initially we thought of staying at Bubu Long Beach Resort again but in the end decided to try some other more budget place...

We ended up staying at this place called Panorama Chalets...got a family room with 2 double beds, AC but cold shower for RM150 per night...very basic, smells of cigarette smoke and has a leaking basin...but otherwise it was liveable...and they provided dinner for 2 persons...so we only had to fork out money for another person's dinner and drinks...so after we settled in our room, off we went to the beach to soak in the sun...i bought my bible along...thought it'd be a good time for reflection and all...after reading Psalm 22, totally dozed off (actually was already dozing off towards the end of Psalm 22)...used the bible to shade my face some more...tsk tsk tsk...

After about 2 hours on the beach, we decided to go for a walk along the beach...went to check out another resort at the end of the beach which has chalets along the slopes of the hill facing the ocean...and the rates were quite reasonable...i would love to be staying in one of those seaview chalets although my 2 others friends thought that any place that needed a hike up a hill isn't worth staying at...we went back to bathe and it started to rain...we wanted to wait for the rain to stop before we went for dinner but it didn't stop even by 830pm...so we decided to just shield ourselves from the rain with the towels and made our way to the restaurant for dinner...

We had our seafood dinner...Suet Lai with her King Fish, me with my barraccuda and Sharon with her squid...nothing to shout about...but the drinks were amazing...the 2 girls ordered chocolate banana milkshake which was just absolutely heavenly...and i ordered a Snickers milkshake which was great too...the ang moh waitress actually told us there was a bar called Black Tip Bar down the beach which has ladies night every Friday...and all the ladies (and men who wore dresses) get a free cocktail...would have loved to get my fix of cocktail if it weren't for the rain...so we went back to the room instead and chatted away...

Woke up about 9am...got ready and packed and went for breakfast...thought of trying out the massage at the guesthouse next door but they only opened at 11am and we were catching the 12pm boat back to Kuala Besut...so after checking out, we just lazed at the beach while waiting for our boat...came back to KB, wanted to find a place for a good massage...but couldn't find a place which would give us a massage....sigh...guess my massage will have to wait till later...

So i've enjoyed my weekend instead of studying...now it's time to get back to studying...dreading tomorrow and the rest of the week...coz it's flap..and then on call...and flap again...Lord, give me the strength to carry on...

Chicken Chop & Good Old Times....and El Camino de Santiago as my graduation gift...

I just came back from dinner with Kenneth and Daphne...had chicken chop for dinner...it's the famous one which we used to go to during our uni days...i just found out today that the owners have moved their shop...quite an upgrade from the shop they used to run their business...which i must say is a rare thing in KB...i guess business has been very good since i left KB 5 years ago...

As i ate my large portion of chicken chop, it brought back a lot of good memories...Alisa, Colleen, Chiew Ping and i used to go there for our dose of chicken chop/ fish and chips...or sometimes one of them would go out and ta pau back for dinner...and when i was with Kheng Wee, that used to be one of our regular dinner date spot...if we ever go out for dinner...Kheng Wee loved the chicken chop there...sometimes he would go on the bike all the way to town to ta pau chicken chop for both of us... ahhh, those were the good old times...

So much have stayed the same, yet so much have changed...but one thing's for sure...you can't go back to the past...so i have to seize the present....and look forward to the future...i've been listening to Corrinne May every so often as i can...and someone used her song "On My Way" as the song for her El Camino de Santiago journey in Youtube...i was curious about this El Camino de Santiago so i googled it...

What i found out totally inspired me...El Camino de Santiago is also known as The Way of St James...it's a pilgrimage where pilgrims make their journey from certain starting points to end at the Santiago de Compostella, the cathedral where it was believed that the remains of St James were buried...it's at a place called Santiago in Northern Spain...and the most popular starting point is from this place called St Jean Pied de Port, somewhere at the French side of the Pyrenees...from there, pilgrims travel by foot/ bicycle for 780km to their destination in Santiago...along the way, there are Alburgues or Refugios (hostels for pilgrims) where pilgrims can rest and exchange experience/ life stories with other pilgrims...when they've reached Santiago de Compostella, some pilgrims choose to continue their walk to Finisterre, which is by the beach...

And so, i have a dream...that is to go for El Camino de Santiago after i graduate from my master programme...it would be a graduation gift to myself...and i truly believe that it will be a purifying journey for me...not sure exactly what i expect to find...perhaps it will help renew my faith, help me to draw closer to God...whatever it is, it is definitely something that i will hold on to, to help me get through these next 4 years...Lord, may You bless Your daughter's desire...

Anyway, enough of dreaming and reverie for now...time to get back to studying...post call today...and i haven't been studying anything...one day wasted...oh dear...but i'm so not in the mood to study...Lord, help me to love anatomy....

Korean dinner...and cocktails & cakes thereafter...

I went to visit Pa today...woke up about 12pm...found out Ma's wallet got stolen when she and Pei went to the market in the morning...sigh...series of unfortunate events...after lunch, Ma and i went to the place where we kept Pa's urn...i just felt that i needed to see Pa...thought that maybe i'd find peace... didn't see his physical self though...wish i could see him like how my niece Sylvia could...but i did find the courage to go on...i would make Pa proud of her daughter...we're not quitters...

Sent Ma to Lot 10 to exchange her Shiseido goods after that...got stuck in the jam for quite some time..reached home about 4pm plus...read 2 pages of anatomy and fell asleep...had a date with Twink tonight...she was supposed to come pick me up at 6pm to go for dinner...but somehow there was a change of plan...in the end i went to pick her up from at Sri Hartamas where she had her facial done...

So we went to a nearby Korean restaurant and had a pork bbq feast...since i've been pork-deprived in KB...hehe...after dinner, we drove back down to the Gardens and had dessert in Alexis...i just remembered that our family had our Chinese New Year lunch there this year...and that was the last time i had photos of Pa taken...and i realized that i didn't take a photo with him...just the 2 of us...

Anyway, i ordered a long island iced tea and Twink ordered a lychee martini...and we had mango cream cake and strawberry mascarpone for dessert...so it turned out that long island iced tea is a combination of 5 white spirits (poison according to Twink, of which i know none of their names), orange and coke (and no tea whatsoever)...i would have added more coke to the mixture to dilute the alcohol taste...but after the ice melted, the alcohol taste was less...so it was quite nice...and the lychee martini looked very feminine...very suitable for women...and at least it had lychee in it...

I had a good time bitching about my life (or the lack of it) in KB...told Twink of some horror stories...one particular story involved a certain person in my department whom i was assisting in an AVF operation...so this person was blaming me for trying to ruin his life coz i prepared the LA using a mixture of lignocaine & marcain adrenaline...which was what my urology boss had been using for the few hundred AVFs he had created (and no he had never had a case where the artery ceased to pulsate)...so when he found the vein, it wasn't in vasoconstriction...and then he found a pale cord-like structure at the radial aspect of the forearm which wasn't pulsating...and he started going on about why we shouldn't use marcain adrenaline bla bla bla..."hmmm, i wonder why the artery is so small?" and "damn, it's not even pulsating"...

I thought that was pretty odd...and the place where it was was more lateral than where the radial artery should have been...so i palpated where the radial artery pulse should have been and pointed out that it was more medial...that structure which was not pulsating was actually a nerve...thank God he didn't clamp/arteriotomize it...but i would not be surprised that if he screwed up, it would still have been my fault somehow....to cut the long story short, thank God for His mercy that the AVF was created without much mishap...

I actually have more stories of oppression/stupidity/etc etc...but it's getting late...and i'd rather sleep than waste my time on stories about people unworthy of my time...

Locked-in syndrome...again...and birthdays...

This week was a mixture of good and bad...more good though...which i'm very thankful for...i wasn't on call during the weekdays...so i had time to go to church to practice keyboard after work...Suet Lai asked me to play the keyboard for her during this Friday's worship...since i suck big time at playing, i needed more practice...also, this week Alisa (with Anthony and Darrien) and Chiew Ping came to USM for their stats course...so it was good to have more friends around...

So one of the days when i went to church to practice keyboard, i got locked in again when i was trying to come out of the church...church was on the first floor...so after i was done locking up and went down the stairs...there was a door and a grill downstairs....and i couldn't open the door despite unlocking it...it was bloody stuck...Alisa was outside and i asked her to open the grill to help me unlock the door from the outside...but she said the grill was locked...i was quite alarmed as i remembered i didn't lock the grill..

As i was panicking in the dark (coz i turned off the light at the stairway), suddenly the lights went on...and i heard doors being closed and locked...then suddenly a man's voice asked, "tak boleh buka pintu?" i was quite shocked that there was another person in the unit...i found out later that apparently there's someone staying up at the 2nd floor...so i said, "tak boleh" in my most despaired tone...and he said, "cuba pusing ke atas"...so i turned the handle upwards and voila!! the door opened...thank God for that man...coz if it wasn't for him i would have been locked in for quite sometime...again...but really, how would i know that i had to turn the handle upward to open a door? that's just not normal...

On Thursday, i had to be delivery girl for my boss and seniors in OT coz they just couldn't bear to eat the OT food anymore...i had to drop my ward work to go buy food for them...really, back in KK, my bosses would wait for us MOs to go for lunch together...and if anyone went to ta pau, it was when the person is free and didn't have ward work pending...sigh, i guess i've really been spoilt in KK...i guess this is the price to pay for having sold my soul to the devil...i actually had a very naughty thought while buying them food...i wanted to put a lot of chilli and sambal in their soup...but my conscience won in the end...

Thursday was also Khalil's birthday...and i have yet to listen to his new album 15...although the package from HK is sitting at home in KL waiting for me to open it...So Friday i played keyboard at church...i played as if all the week's practice didn't mean anything...coz it was still bad playing...so i had to turn down the keyboard's volume so as not to injure any musical ears...came home and slept for 3 hours...then a bunch of us went for dinner at 4 Seasons...and then after that went for dessert at Red Bean Cafe...gosh...weekend has become feasting days for me...since i hardly get proper meals during the weekdays...

So now it's early Saturday morning...and i'm on call later...and i'm wide awake coz i slept earlier in the afternoon...dang!!! it's also Joe's birthday today...sent him a birthday wish msg which he replied with a virtual kiss, hahaha..felt bad that i'm not in KL to celebrate his birthday with him...since he actually came back from Penang to celebrate my birthday with me...i should have asked for this weekend off and gone back to KL...but it's my fault really...i actually didn't remember that it's Joe's birthday today :P...such a horrible friend i am....oh well, good friends will understand that even though we're not near each other, our thoughts and prayers are always with them....Happy Birthday Khalil and Joe!!!

My last concert in KK...

I had my final concert in KK on Monday night...or that's what Michael Wong said...i planned to have dinner with Elaine, Siang Lin and Flora before i leave...but since Kelvin Chia was leaving as well so some of the Paeds ppl decided to go for dinner at Chub's grill and karaoke thereafter...so i kinda tagged along...it was quite a good arrangement since i had wanted to eat the grilled pork ribs at Chub's grill one last time...dinner was great...and so was the company...

Elaine booked a room at Amp Square at Suria Sabah for 930pm...so we went there just about time... there were 11 of us...and we totally sang our hearts out...there was this paediatrician who totally sang like she was having a concert...Elaine initially said, oh no, another Khalil Fong concert tonight...but i thought not many ppl would know Khalil's songs and Elaine should be quite sick of listening to me singing Khalil's songs, so i decided to sing other songs...since i've learnt quite a new repertoire...hehe...i actually only sang 2 of Khalil's songs...one of which was his new 好不容易 ...and another was his cover version of Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You...

We had like 5 hours plus to sing...and lots of drinks (we ordered non-alcohol of course, since a few of us were post call and pre call) and snacks...the place was actually devoid of cigarette smell...probably becoz it was new...wide range of song selection...we sang a lot of chinese songs...and then a lot of english and malay songs for the 'banana'...hehe, as if i am not one...thank God Flora was there to help me read the chinese words that i couldn't read...i stayed till about 130am...Flora, Elaine and Siang Lin left earlier coz they were tired i guess...the rest stayed till time was up i guess...i was pre call...and 130am was way beyond my bedtime...only slept at 230am... had post-high insomnia...hehe...

Thank God my last call was wasn't too bad...managed to go home and finished up all the last minute packing...i'd probably never step foot in KK again...but saying goodbye sounds so final...i'd rather use the chinese term 再见....coz like the lyrics in one of 光良's song...因为我相信说过了再见, 一定会再见...well then, so long KK and my dear friends in KK...till we meet again...i'll come back for Sipadan someday...

My last few days in KK....

I'm living my last few days in KK as if the world is coming to an end...if whatever some guy in a blog said about the raptures is true, i supposed i'm on the right track then...caught my last sunset in KK on Thursday evening...it was magnificent...and there was a reflecting rainbow at the opposite end of the sunset...how marvelous...Friday night cell had a farewell dinner for me...i was quite annoyed initially coz i was actually 5 mins late for our 730pm dinner and yet i was the earliest...had half the mind to just leave and they can have their own farewell without me...but it was my last time eating the chocolate fondant with ice-cream in Party Play...so i tolerated...so i had lamb shank, shared a giant fishbowl strawberry margarita with a few others...and had my chocolate fondant with ice-cream for dessert...still as good as it tasted the first time...if not better....

Saturday i was on call...wasn't too bad a call during the day...coz OT didn't call any cases till evening....so i spent most of the day finishing up this book i've been reading..."Wicked: The Life & Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" by Gregory Maguire...i do believe that at this age, my mind is still suggestible...there was a part in the book where Elphaba was in the company of Avaric and his friends and they were having a heated debate about what is evil...someone said, "evil is not doing the wrong things, it's feeling bad about doing the wrong things"....and so i decided that i shall stomp my conscience down when the HO asked me if she could do the appendicectomy...it was almost 1am and all i did was ask her back, "do you know what time is it?"...

Got home about 2am...managed to sleep about an hour plus until the Queen call MO called me to inform me he was sending a patient who put a metal ring on his penile shaft and it got stuck...the MO tried to pull out the ring for 2 hours in the casualty and ended up further engorging the penis...the patient arrived in SMC about 6am...no longer in pain coz there was no more sensation in his penis...it really pissed me off (no pun intended) when patients like this end up in the ward and gives me problem...i mean, keep your stupidity to yourself...don't inconvenient others with it...i called my boss on call and he just happily 'lepas tangan' and asked me to refer to urology...pissed me off so i just gave him a 'whatever' and slammed the phone down...

Managed to get the urology specialist on call and he came in a jiffy...so we posted him for removal of ring under GA...finished my call and morning round...came home and bathed...wore the white blouse Connie gave me as a farewell gift to church this morning...loved the blouse...and Sandra gave me a black Esprit bag at church as farewell gift...so nice...now i have a new bag to use to go to work...met Edwin in church...apparently he was visiting for the first time...so ngam...so i brought Flora over to introduce themselves to each other during chat time...for once (and for the last time) i've made myself useful over chat time...hahahaha....

After church i asked Edwin to join me and Shasha for lunch...since Pastor always asked us to invite newcomer to go for lunch after church...and Edwin actually obliged...too bad Flora had to go with the Paeds gang to Karambunai...if not, it would have been a good time for them to know each other over lunch...hehe...so i drove to Suria Sabah where we were supposed to meet at this Japanese steamboat restaurant for lunch...i wore the wrong sandals, a pair which sole was threatening to fall off...which it did as soon as i reached Suria Sabah...so i had no choice but to abandon my sandals at the garbage can...and so what else could i do but to strut around Suria Sabah barefooted in search of a shoe shop for some emergency shopping?

Thank God there was a Padini Concept Store at the ground floor...so i was probably a barefooted freak of Suria Sabah but i was beyond care...i needed a pair of new sandals stat...there was only 20% discount for members...so i had to apply for a membership card at rm20 (thank God i still had some money left) to get the 20% discount...even managed to snag a new fashion watch which was going for half price...so all in i actually paid less than what i would have paid for the shoes alone if i weren't a member...i'm sure there'll be more chance to use the card...

So i managed to find the Japanese restaurant...and so did Edwin...but Shasha was late...and Elsie too...Shasha went for facial and had some complication post facial so she was held back...Elsie was on call and had to see a patient in the hospital...so we only finally had lunch at 2pm...and hour later than the initial plan...during lunch Edwin had to suffer through me complaining about the guys who went up the mountain with me...i think he totally got scared and said hopefully he has not bullied me in the past so that i wouldn't curse him to be single forever...hahahaha...as if i'm a real witch who's capable of placing a curse on anyone...oh, and Shasha and Elsie bought me a subtlely sexy blue dress as a farewell gift...so nice...not that i really expect any send-off gifts...

After lunch had to rush to Warisan for my pedi and mani appointment at 3pm, which i was late for of course...still it was good to be able to pamper myself once in a while...but i'm convinced that a klutz like me am not meant for all these girlie things...coz within the first 5 mins i came home and walked into my room, i've managed to ruin the polish on my left big toe...urgh!!! i only feel pain for the money i've paid...oh well, i'll live...

Had dinner at Gayang with the Paeds gang and some HOs...they were having Kelvin's farewell...good thing i didn't get too lost on the way there and back...but i supposed that would be my last seafood meal in KK...it's been a tiring day today...hardly do i ever have a flurry of activities during weekends...

My Best Friend's Wedding 2...

I was back in KL over the royal wedding weekend...coz i had another wedding to attend...my (guy) best friend's wedding...which was the day after the royal wedding... i was back on Wednesday night and managed to hang out with Ernest one last time before he ended his singlehood...we went out for lunch at Chili's on Thursday...then we went shopping for his shirt and shoes...which were for his wedding...really, men can be such last-minute creatures...2 days before the wedding and then they go shopping for their shirt, tie and shoes...good thing men shop real quick...

I was shopping for a clock for home...apparently all the clocks at home has been annihilated by an epidemic of clock plaque...and this was the first time i was actually clock shopping...and neither of us knew where to find a clock shop...so after a whole afternoon of shopping, Ernest got his shirt
and shoes, i got my clock...he couldn't find a plain white tie...and he still had to buy 'standby' rings for the wedding...er, that's another long story which may be told another day....oh, and we managed to get a wedding gift for him and his wife as well...Ernest kept saying he wanted a conventional oven...that was like rm4000...couldn't afford that...then he said, you could get us a PS3...that's like rm1300...hmmm, i could fork out half of that...and initially he was like trying to be the Chinese he is and declined...but i told him, i'm not gonna ask 3 times and that's all i can afford...

So we went to the Sony Centre and bought a white PS3...he was quite happy...coz he knew his wife would be ecstatic when she saw it...let's just hope they don't get too addicted to that machine...Friday i was out with Pei and Ee...went to Isetan KLCC...bought a bag for Ma for Mother's Day...and went for free makeover at Burberry...courtesy of Jie...

Elaine & Siang Lin's Wedding

I had a good break over the weekend...a bunch of us went to Muar for Elaine and Siang Lin's wedding on 20 Nov 2010...yes, the wedding that i've been anticipating for the last few months...Flora, Connie and i flew to JB on Friday morning...i forgot my passport so i had to trouble Becky to send me back to grab it...thank God i didn't miss the flight...Siang Lin and Nelson (Elaine's younger bro) came to pick us up from Senai airport....and we drove back to Muar...which was about 2 hours away...

We dropped by at Elaine's house to pick her up and send her to the nail parlour to do her nails...then Siang Lin brought us for lunch at Elaine's favourite bak kut teh shop...then we checked in at D'99 hotel....Flora, Connie and i shared a room...we practically slept off the whole afternoon...while waiting for Jasmine, Suet Lai, Alisa and Anthony and Darrien to arrive...when they've all arrived...we hung out at the Delifrance adjacent to the hotel....it was good to catch up with old friends...and having Darrien was a lot of fun...

We went to Elaine's house for dinner...she had a pre-wedding dinner for her friends and relatives...and we even celebrated Darrien's 1st birthday...Elaine bought a Baskin Robbins ice-cream cake...we ended up enjoying the cake more than Darrien...hehe...after dinner, the jie muis discussed about the things we wanted the heng tais to do during the morning wedding ceremony....then we went back to the hotel and slept...

We woke up about 6am plus on Saturday morning...we got ready and had breakfast at the hotel...then Nelson came to pick us up to his place...we spent about an hour preparing the 'special drinks' for the heng tais...then us girls were busy placing our kisses on paper...it was for one of the task for Siang Lin...he had to guess which one was Elaine's kiss...we even got Nelson's help with the kisses...hehe...

Siang Lin and his heng tais came about 9am plus...from the beginning, he and his guys had to look for the house key to enter the main gate...we gave the house key to one of the neighbour who really took the guys on a trip...coz he gave them the wrong keys...twice...only after Siang Lin gave him an ang pow only he gave the right key...hahahaha....then after they entered the main gate, firecrackers were ignited...gosh, lost a few decibles of my hearing....

Their next task was to send some guys to eat cut apples from a plate on the floor while doing push-ups....most of the guys managed 2-3 slices...then it was time to down a whole long glassful of beer...the guy who did it could really drink...and he's chinese...next task was to drink the 'special drinks' we prepared...from red wine to hot chilli sauce to vinegar to raw egg...guys really would down anything...hehe...then it was time to dance....i think 'Nobody' by Wonder Girls has become the official wedding dance song...so 2 of the guys had to wear dresses and danced to the song...the guys were quite sporting to oblige....

Then we had some naughty poses for the guys to imitate...that was pretty hilarious...then Siang Lin was finally outside Elaine's room...but before that, he had to spot Elaine's kiss among many kisses...us jie muis managed to get lots of ang pows from Siang Lin during that task...hehe...but eventually he managed to choose the right lips after like 5 guesses...then he thought he could go into the room but then it was locked...and the room key was stuck on the ceiling...so he had to climb up on a chair and use an umbrella to reach the key...

Siang Lin must have been so relieved when he finally opened the room door...could really see it in his smile...hehe...so he went into the room...unveiled Elaine and puts the wedding ring on her...Elaine looked like an angel in her wedding dress...the epitome of a vision of loveliness...after putting on the ring, Siang Lin planted a kiss on Elaine...sigh...best part of any wedding...then we proceeded to the tea ceremony....after that it was time for the bride to leave the house...hehe, we had quite some fun throwing rice at the wedding couple as they walked to the car...

Then we went to the hotel where Siang Lin's parents were staying for another tea ceremony...Connie, Flora and i followed one of Siang Lin's friend's car...when we reached the hotel, one of Connie's strappy heels broke...so i had to lend her my heels so that she can go get herself a new pair...which she did in record time...and her new heels were fabulous...not to mention quite cheap...after the 2nd tea ceremony, it was time for lunch...

We went back to our hotel after lunch...slept a bit till about 5pm...Flora got ready earlier and left for the restaurant coz she was the MC and needed to prepare earlier...Connie and i took our time to get ready...we had to wait for our transport...which was late...but somehow we managed to reach the restaurant before the dinner started...met Ah Liam at the dinner...it was good to catch up...

Then it was time for the bride and groom to enter the restaurant...it was quite an entrance...Elaine looked like a princess in her pale blue gown...and Siang Lin her dashing prince by her side...there were lots of bubbles in the air as they were walking in...quite dream-like...dinner was good...and there was live band performing...so we requested and dedicated some songs to Elaine and Siang Lin...i requested for "Wonderful Tonight"...but the wedding singer totally ruined it with his own version of the song...totally unromantic and inappropriate...i still think Khalil Fong's version is amazing...

So, that was 'the' wedding...a friend told me he hates attending wedding...coz it makes him feel old...i love attending weddings...i love sharing the joy and love with my friends who are getting hitch...i just wonder if this whole getting married business was meant for me...coz it doesn't look like it's gonna happen...

Happy Malaysia Day!!!

Had a good call last night...thank God for His mercy....totally slept from 1130pm till 8am this morning... and amazingly, no calls...finally got up about 1030am to bathe....then went to K-box to meet Elaine for our Chinese lessons...asked Grace but she was tired from her call last night...so she didn't join us... we had lunch at K-box and sang for about 2 hours plus...sang some new songs...like JJ Lin's 一个又一个 , 神木與瞳's 宽恕, 好想为你哭, 王力宏's 材米油盐酱醋茶....but they didn't have his 你不知道的事...

After that, i came home and tried sleeping some more...but kept waking up...so decided to wake up... saw my boss online so was chatting with him...guess he was having a good call since he could be at home online...hehe...was feeling hungry by about 6pm...so had a stick of chocolate...and messaged Sharon if she was free for dinner...she was...so we went to Fruit Monster at Lintas...haven't met her for about 2 months de...so it was good to catch up...i was basically complaining about work...and she said i was scaring her into not coming back to work...hehe...

She told me she had a dream about me having a baby...i was like, weird...so i asked if my baby was brown...and she said it was a boy...and he looked like a Chindian...and she was carrying the baby and saying "he looks so cute"...good, guess he took after me then...hahaha...and i asked her, i don't suppose there was a 'husband' by my side...and she said, yea there wasn't...i hope her dream isn't prophetic...but funny thing was, i was thinking that if it did happen, then it wasn't a bad thing after all...i got my baby...it may be difficult to be a single mother...so i don't need a man who would add to my misery...Sharon's lucky to have Pang...he's a good husband and father...who loves his wife and would do the housework to help Sharon out at home...

Oh well, guess it's que sera sera...Happy Malaysia Day!!! tomorrow i'm on call again...

A weekend with friends...

So we celebrated Jasmine's birthday on Friday night at Little Italy....and we went to K-box after that...us girls (Alisa, Elaine, Jasmine, Flora, Grace and i) and also Kean Khang...we got quite a big room which unfortunately reeked of cigarrette smoke...still, it didn't stop us from singing our hearts out...or in my case, singing my blues away...

Thank God i didn't have to wake up early on Saturday...coz i only slept at 3am...my colleague covered me during the morning for the health awareness programme thingy...so i had to endure the other half of the afternoon before i could join the girls in Karambunai...drove home straight after the programme ended and packed an overnight bag and headed towards Nexus Karambunai...we booked 2 rooms and Elaine said we actually got a free upgrade...so the rooms were bigger...

Elaine and i went for a swim while the others waited for Darrien to wake up...we swam a bit...and spend most of our time drinking cocktails during happy hour...the frozen margarita and screwdriver that i drank were pretty diluted...so they actually tasted like ice blended lime and orange juice...felt a bit woozy after that though...think i downed them too fast...

Then we went for dinner at Salut...then came back to the hotel room and gossipped...watched Glee on tv too...couldn't really sleep much coz i felt warm the whole night...kept waking up in sweat....got up for buffet breakfast...then went to the beach to sit a while...soaking in the sun and enjoying the ocean view...then it was time to get back to reality...yup...i'm on call today...good thing it's Queen call...

I came home after reviewing a patient in casualty...checked my mail...received a reply which wasn't what i hoped for...but i supposed it was a reply that would be better for everyone...in the long run... still couldn't help but cried...i feel like crawling into bed and cry whole day...or maybe i should just drink myself into a drunken stupor...but damn, i'm on call..so i can do neither...i just can't believe i've gotten myself into the same situation twice this year...i mean, exactly how stupid can a girl get? this really deserves a best-selling novel...but yea well, back to reality...need to go review another patient in the medical ward...

Alisa's in KK...

Alisa's in KK...she came with Anthony and baby Darrien to visit us...it's been quite a while since i saw Alisa...perhaps about a year de...they arrived yesterday night but i was too tired to go pick them up with Jasmine...didn't even see them this morning coz i went to work early...so only got to see them when we went for dinner tonight...had seafood...it's good to have a gathering like this...

Christine brought Christabel who's only 1 day younger than Darrien...how nice...so we were having fun trying to pair the kids up...hahaha...they're barely 9 months...it's so cute watching kids interact... Christabel was so friendly and kept trying to touch Darrien...and Darrien was a bit alarmed and blushed...but after a while Darrien kept staring at Christabel...hahahaha....so adorable...

Tomorrow we'll be having dinner at Little Italy...to celebrate Jasmine's birthday...it's supposed to be a surprise party...hehe...then maybe we'll go for karaoke after dinner...

Bridesmaid dress....

I haven't been updating my blog for about a week...guess i've been busy and distracted....and there isn't much happening lately...was doing locum from 2-8pm yesterday...quite busy...but what to do... have to earn more money coz will have more liability now that Petrina's going to med school...anyway, Elaine texted me and asked if i thought it was a good idea if she made dresses for her bridesmaids...she was thinking about something short, simple and flattering to all types of body habitus...

So i got quite excited and told her i'd help her look for some designs and email them to her...so i was surfing the net for photos of bridesmaid dresses...in between seeing patients...saw quite some lovely ones...i found some one-shoulder dresses which i liked a lot...and some v-neck, cap-sleeve and strapless ones...so in the end she decided she wanted us to be wearing strapless dresses with ribbon at the waist...

Actually, i've been surfing the net for wedding dresses the last few days...suddenly had the urge to check out wedding dress designs....must have been coz i went to see Elaine and Siang Lin's wedding photos few days back...was thinking, if i could draw, i'd probably have been a fashion designer instead of a doctor...at least i won't be missing a PGU like how i did on my Saturday call...sigh....

Anyway, Elaine's gonna be checking out the material for her bridesmaids' dresses...she's thinking of maroon colour...and i'm supposed to be taking my measurements for the dress...gosh...don't dare to measure...might be utterly shocked at how much i've grown...:P

Elaine's Gown Fitting

Elaine went for her gown fitting on Sunday...she and Flora were post call so they went home to sleep a while before the gown fitting appointment...which was at 3pm...i was having my afternoon nap as well... woke up half an hour before 3pm, after getting ready, rushed to the bridal studio at Lintas which was called All About Love...thought i was late, but as of Malaysian custom, everyone else was late too...about 5 mins later, Grace showed up...so we went into the shop and waited for the bride and groom and Flora to arrive...

They arrived about 10 mins later...and so we started browsing through the gowns...the shop didn't have that many choices...so we had to make do with what they had....we managed to narrow down to about 6 white gowns and 6 coloured gowns for Elaine to try...by this time, Siang Lin has disappeared off somewhere....so it was just up to us girls...we were totally having fun helping Elaine try out the gowns and help her choose...so she tried gown after gown...eventually we narrowed down 4 gowns for her photoshoot and 1 gown for her dinner reception...Really, Elaine is definitely no bride-zilla...coz we finished trying out the gowns and she decided on her choices within 2 hours...then it was Siang Lin's turn to try out his coats and pants...then we were watching dvds of other couples' photos while we waited for the tailor to alter 2 of her dresses as one was too loose and another was a little too tight...these are photos of post alteration....After we're done with her gown fitting, Elaine and I went to City Mall to check out the shoe shops coz she needed to buy her wedding heels....unfortunately, we didn't find any that really wowed us...so we went to 1B to have dinner and continue shopping for Siang Lin's shirt and Elaine's shoes...managed to buy the shirt...unfortunately, we still couldn't find the right pair of heels for Elaine...i guess she'll continue her shoe-hunt next weekend...

Baby Michelle...

Went to visit Pang, Sharon and baby Michelle today....she's really the most mild-tempered baby i've met...she slept through all our conversations and laughter....she was a bit jaundice...probably why she was always sleeping...but she really looks like Pang...anyway, here are some of her adorable pics....

Which is Pang and which is Michelle? hehe...
